Author Guidelines

Attention Authors

Each issue of the Orthodoxia journal deals with some topic. The topics of the upcoming issues are published by the editorial board in advance. At the same time, the editorial board reserves the right to correct the submitted list of issues and postpone their release dates.

In this regard, we kindly ask the authors to contact the editorial board before preparing and sending the texts of articles (mail@journal-orthodoxia.ru) and declare their intention to submit an article for consideration: introduce themselves (full name, place of employment, academic degree, area of expertise), submit the topic of the proposed article, and briefly describe the research methodology. The editorial board shall consider your application and provide a response, whether the proposed research is of interest to the journal. After the topic of the article is approved by the editorial board and the article itself is written and submitted for consideration, it has to undergo a blind peer review procedure (see Author Rules).

The editorial calendar for the upcoming issues of the journal is currently under development.

The Orthodoxia journal accepts three types of manuscripts for publication:

Research Articles

Review Articles

Reviews of Research Papers

The submission of a manuscript to the Orthodoxia journal implies that:

  • the manuscript was not published earlier in another edition;
  • the manuscript is not under consideration in another edition;
  • all co-authors agree with the publication of the current version of the manuscript of the article;
  • the manuscript strictly corresponds to the remit of the Orthodoxia journal;
  • the manuscript is relevant and original, contains new scientific knowledge;
  • the manuscript corresponds to the announced topic of one of the upcoming issues of the Orthodoxia journal and has been submitted within the announced deadlines.

All elements of the article, including metadata, shall be sent to the editorial board in Russian. No translation into English is required.

I. Guidelines for Completion of All Elements of Submitted Manuscripts

1. Heading. It should expresses the subject of the submitted article (the subject of the research) in the most concrete and succinct form.

2. Name of the Author (Authors)

The authors are people whom the scientific group has identified as the main contributors in the submitted paper and who have confirmed being responsible for their part of the paper. In addition to being responsible for their part of the paper, the author should be able to indicate which of their co-authors are responsible for specific other parts of the paper. In addition, the author has to trust the reliability of the contribution made by their co-authors. All authors should review and approve the final version of the manuscript.

The Orthodoxia journal is based on the following criteria of authorship:

  • significant contribution to the idea and plan of the publication, data collection, analysis, interpretation of data or findings obtained;
  • preparation of the article or its critical revision in terms of meaningful intellectual contents;
  • final approval of the current version for publication;
  • the list of authors should not include people who are not the authors of the article. The names of people who are not authors, but have provided some other support, should be indicated in the Acknowledgements section.

The full name of each of the authors must be romanised (transliterated) as it was indicated in previously published articles. To transliterate the List of References, use the LC standard (https://translit.ru/ru/lc/).

3. Author's Affiliation

The name of the organization where the author works (without a postal address). Several organizations (usually no more than two) can be specified. Preference should be given to the place of employment that is relevant to the preparation of the submitted research. If there are several authors of the article, it is necessary to indicate the place of work for each of them.

4. Abstract

The abstract is a succinct presentation of the article's core messages. The purpose of the abstract is to assist the reader in understanding the key research findings (what tasks were set and to what extent they were achieved) without reading the article itself.

The abstract for research and review articles should make up 250-270 words and have the structure below:

  • What is the topic of the article (subject and goals of the research), what is the relevance and novelty of the problem raised (briefly)
  • What was done during the research (what methods were used, what analysis was carried out)
  • What findings did the author come to (all the findings of the article are the most important part of the abstract).
  • What is the significance of the findings (assessment of the research findings, overview of the research findings in a broader context, leading to generalization)

The abstract for other formats (review, interview, roundtable discussion) should make up 100-150 words and have the structure below:

  • Rationale and Relevance of the Topic
  • Manuscript Contents and Findings

5. Keywords (4-10)

Both individual words and phrases on the topic of the article can be used.

6. Contents of the Body Text of the Manuscript (Article)

Guidelines for writing the body text of the manuscript — see below.

7. List of References

The List of References has to be placed after the article text, in alphabetic order and in accordance with the State Standard of Russia (GOSTR) 7.0.5-2008

The List of References should include mainly scientific publications (articles, books).

II. Guidelines for the Structure of the Contents of the Manuscript Body Text

1. Research Article (30-50 ths. characters)

The research article is the most common form of scientific research accepted in the Orthodoxia journal.

The research article is an independent scientific paper that puts forward and substantiates a new scientific hypothesis, which leads to the creation of new scientific knowledge. The research article, as a rule, should be supported not only by existing academic literature, but also by primary sources. The research article has to be based on evidence-based methods. The research article without metadata should optimally contain 30-50 thousand characters with spaces.

The text of the research article must be structured and contain (explicitly or implicitly) the following sections:

A) Introduction (Why the Research Was Conducted)

– the statement of a research question

– the rationale and relevance of the topic (why the research was started)

– the goal of the research and the tasks leading to the achievement of this goal

– research methods (how the tasks are solved)

– the original hypothesis (the planned conclusion that is to be proved or refuted by the research findings)

– the review of the background information and current academic literature on this topic (including a critical assessment of how other research studies have answered the same or similar research question)

– the brief outline of the submitted research (what semantic parts it consists of)

B) Research (What Has Been Done)

– the presentation of the research procedure itself and its sequential logic in accordance with the tasks set

– the body text of the research article can be divided into semantic parts with crossheadings

C) Research Findings (What Has Been Found)

– to list the research findings obtained by degree of significance or in another logical order

– the findings should be presented without author's interpretations and assessments

D) Discussion of the Findings (What Does It Mean)

– to compare the findings obtained with the the findings of other similar research studies

– to mention the shortcomings and weaknesses of the conducted research

– what is the significance of the research findings for your own and other areas of expertise

– how the research findings can be applied in practice

– to indicate what remains to be done to clarify or supplement the research findings

E) Conclusion

– the restatement of the hypothesis and the main finding of the research.

2. Review Article (30-50 ths. characters)

The review article is intended to analyse various research studies (secondary sources) of a topic (problem), subject area, theory or method. A review article not only catalogues existing research studies, but also offers a comprehensive analysis of these: synthesizes and expands the list of academic literature on a specific problem, theory or method, identifies trends, reveals gaps, makes forecasts, and provides sound recommendations on the necessary lines of further research studies.

The structure of the review article has to correspond to the structure of the research article (see above).

3. Review (15-30 ths. characters)

The review is a critical analysis of monographs and other major works (collections, dictionaries, translations, etc.), the subject of which is relevant to the remit of the Orthodoxia journal. The priority shall be given to reviews of new publications published in the last 3 years.

The list of review metadata must meet the general requirements (heading, author's name and affiliation, abstract, keywords, etc.) — see above.

Structure of the Review Text:

  1. A) Introduction (Relevance of the Paper from Theoretical and Practical Standpoint)
  2. B) Main Part: the Contents of the Book (Topics Raised, Methods Used, Arguments, Theories, Style of Presentation, Target Audience of the Book)
  3. C) Criticism: Internal Criticism (Assessment of the Presentation Relevance and Logic, the Applicability of the Methods, Arguments, Theory, Style, Etc. Used), Contextual Criticism (Assessment of the Scientific Contribution of the Paper in Question in the Context of Other Research Studies by the Same Author, As Well As in the Context of Similar Research Studies by Other Authors).

4. Interview, Roundtable Discussion

These publication formats shall be assigned by the editorial board.

III. Other Requirements

  1. The article submitted by the author for publication has to be completely original. In case of using separate statements or fragments of already published own papers and papers by other authors, appropriate bibliographical references must be made in the text of the article. Various forms of plagiarism, including paraphrased fragments of someone else's paper without making appropriate references, claiming someone else's paper as the author's paper, etc. are inadmissible.
  2. The same research can be published as an original publication in one journal only. The author should neither submit their article for publication to more than one journal at the same time, nor attempt to publish an already published article.
  3. The author must refer to the publications they used during the preparation of their manuscript. The non-public information (obtained through personal correspondence, in a personal conversation, during a discussion with a third party) may be used in a manuscript only with the written permission of the person who provided this information.
  4. Only the person who has made a significant contribution to the formulation of the research task, its development and implementation at all stages of the article writing can be considered the author of the article. If several people have made a significant contribution to the research, all of them should be listed as co-authors. The co-authors of the article must provide their consent to the publication of the article in its final version.
  5. If the author discovers inaccurate or incorrect information in their paper already published, they must notify the editorial board of the Orthodoxia journal as soon as possible in order to correct the identified errors. The author is also obliged to immediately make corrections to their article if the editorial board finds significant inaccuracies or errors in the text. Otherwise, the editorial board shall have the right to withdraw the publication from the journal.
  6. For successful indexing of the article in scientific databases, all its metadata and all personal data of all authors of the manuscript should be correctly entered when sending the article to the editorial board via the online form. The email of the author indicated as the contact person for correspondence shall be published and be freely available to Internet users and readers of the printed version of the journal.
  7. The editorial board of the Orthodoxia journal independently translates the metadata into English. Nevertheless, authors are recommended to translate the key metadata themselves in order to avoid inaccuracies in translation: full name, the name of the institution where the authors of the manuscript, detailed information about their employment and position, the title of the article, keywords, the most important terms and concepts from the abstract, the name of the organization sponsoring the research (if available).

IV. How to Submit the Manuscript for Consideration

Before starting work on the manuscript, it is recommended to check whether the chosen topic corresponds to one of the topics of the upcoming issues of the journal. The editorial board of the Orthodoxia journal will be pleased to provide the authors with advice or recommendations on the choice of topics for their articles and their compliance with the editorial calendar for the upcoming issues (mail@journal-orthodoxia.ru).

Manuscripts should be sent to the editorial board in electronic form through the personal account on the journal's website https://www.journal-orthodoxia.ru/jour/author/submit/ (registration required).

Before submitting an article for consideration, make sure that the file (or files) contains all the necessary information, the metadata (heading, abstract, information about the author, list of references, Universal Decimal Classification) and quotations are correctly formatted, and the correct sources of information are indicated.
